24.04.- 15.06.2024
On the fourth floor of Tartu Public Library in the music department gallery
Opening: 24.04 at 17:00
Throughout the millions of years of Earth’s history, there have been repeated sudden climate changes and catastrophes that have had a significant impact on the natural environment, leading to waves of prehistoric animal extinctions. The present time has also thrown us into the whirlwind of ecological catastrophes, climate change, and species extinction. When our actions so drastically alter the planet’s environment that humanity as a species is threatened, life as a whole does not disappear. Some life forms can adapt even to the greatest changes. After wild destruction, a new life emerges from somewhere, and development and creation begin anew. The fragile thread of life is passed on from generation to generation.
Last spring, Kalli Kalde travelled to Peru, where many of the world’s oldest high cultures have risen and fallen. The high-print technique works in this exhibition are inspired by ancient creation stories and the art of lost civilisations in South America. Some of the works are printed on banana paper made by Quechua Indians.
