On Wednesday, May 7th: selection of bookbinding works by EKA students
The Physical Books by EKA students
Where does the idea come from that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover? Of course you do. The material and texture of a book cover influence the reading experience. A book is often held in hands while reading, and the tactile sensation from the cover material merges with the act of reading itself. If the cover feels unpleasant (for example, sticky to the touch), the book becomes hard to hold. If the material is pleasant, the book becomes hard to put down. If the cover is unexpected, the book may not behave like a book at all.
A book might be a handbag. It might contain endless possibilities for storytelling without a single word. A book might have a heel — but you may never meet the person who steps into it. From the very cover, it’s possible to cross the boundary between a book and something else entirely.
