“Kalõvipoig”
This Kalevipoeg-themed exhibition presents linocut illustrations for the Võro-language “Kalõvipoig.” Toomas Kuusing’s approach is minimalist and austere, yet multilayered in every sense. As Marju Kõivupuu writes: “Undoubtedly, Kuusing’s work is a significant contribution among the many artistic interpretations of Kalevipoeg, adding substantial value to the Võro-language ‘Kalõvipoig’.”

„Lugusid lõunast“ (“Stories from the South”)
Lauri Sommer’s “Stories from the South” is a selection of recordings retrieved from old cassette tapes. Some are based on the tales of elderly storytellers, some on family traditions, and others on folklore or pure imagination. Certain stories are presented both in their original dialect and in free translation. The collection serves as a continuation of the old storytelling tradition and follows in the footsteps of Juhan Jaik’s “Võrumaa Tales.” The stories take place in Võrumaa, the Peipsi region, Setomaa — both on the Estonian and Petseri sides —, Kulkna (Kolpino) Island, and the village of Chudskaya Rudnitsa on the opposite shore of Lake Lämmijärv. The narratives are complemented by Toomas Kuusing’s linocut prints.
