Anny Löhndorf (Germany)

Anny Löhndorf (2004) is an exchange student from Germany, who is mostly working in the field of costume design for film and theatre but is interested in all things textile. She is inspired by traditional handiwork and materiality and likes to work very detail oriented. She likes to look at clothing from a historical and anthropological perspective to dissect and invert the larger narratives that guide the way we dress and express ourselves. She came to the textile department at Pallas to take a step back from creating finished garments and find out how to tell stories with cloth alone.

Text on the work:

ADAPTATION

Anny Löhndorf, 2026

laminate, wood, n I ruminated on how we adapt things from one medium to another. What is lost and what can be gained? I wanted to show how even a poor imitation, laminate, which lacks the qualities that make the wood that it tries to mimic feel warm and tactile, can fuel a creative process. I aimed to install the life that had been lost in the translation to the mass-produced object by growing the year rings of my wood grain one thread of weft at a time. ails, wool, linnen, acrylic and polyester yarn
