Prima Vista 2026 Art Program

The 2026 art programme brings together professional artists alongside art students from Pallas University of Applied Sciences, each interpreting the theme True and Fake in their own way and in a medium of their choice. Some artists have drawn on traditional techniques, while others have explored further developments or original artist-developed methods. Some have approached the theme philosophically, others more through personal experience, but all have a message connected to the theme.

The exhibition presents a wide range of techniques and forms of expression: printmaking (relief printing, etching, monotype, linocut, botanical printing, drawings), calligraphy, handmade paper, bookbinding, photography, and textile art (embroidery, tapestry), as well as painting, illustration, and artist-developed techniques. Alongside these works, a selection of the finest and most beautiful Estonian books from 1956 to 2025 will be on display. In broad terms, the art programme offers a direct encounter with authentic creative work.

The “Fake”, or “Artificial” may be reflected in the themes of the works or in the use of contemporary technological possibilities. As a new format, the art programme introduces speed-dating sessions between writers and illustrators. Exhibitions and events will take place at three venues: the University of Tartu Library, Tartu Public Library, and the Aparaaditehas creative hub.

The art programme’s valued partners are the Pallas University of Applied Science, the University of Tartu Library, Tartu Public Library, the Estonian Book Year 2025, the Tartu Illustration Festival, the Estonian Literary Museum, the National Library of Estonia, and the Embassy of Poland.
